Tension As Unizik Political Science Student Dies Ironing Clothes —-As Students Mourn At His Burial

There is tension in what led to the death of a 200-level student of Political Science, Faculty of Education, identified as Nnamdi Godwin-Ebube while ironing his clothes.
Eye witnesses said the said Godwin was found dead in room 4, after an alleged electrocution in Fedil Hostel, Destiny Pot Junction, Anambra State, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, around 11 a..m.
Godwin Nnamdi, a native of Amesi in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, was reportedly ironing his clothes when the incident occurred.
Eye witnesses said they met him lying lifeless on the floor with the electric iron resting on his chest.
“We didn’t know what happened. We only came in and saw him on the ground with the iron on his chest,” one of the witnesses told our reporter.
The deceased, who resided at St.Francis Hostel l with his sister inside Destiny Port Junction, was immediately rushed to a Regina Ceali Specialist Awka, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
A witness and resident of St. Francis Hostel, a 300-level Statistics student who did not want to be mentioned described the deceased as a hardworking young man who balanced academics with a dry-cleaning business. He explained that the deceased was well-regarded among lodge members and was widely expected to become the next lodge president.
According to him, the deceased had earlier been seen performing his usual duties around the lodge, including opening the gate, before tragedy struck in Room 4 of Fedil Hostel, where he had gone to iron his clothes.
Born on September 11, 2001, Godwin-Nnamdi died at the age of 24. His body was deposited in the mortuary, and a wake-Keep was held on December 11, followed by his burial on December 12, 2025, in his hometown of Amesi, Anambra State.
The burial ceremony drew a significant turnout from the school community. The Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS), members of the school choir, students from the Political Science Education department, and several other students attended the funeral to sympathize with the family and pay their last respects.
His death was an inevitable one which has left fellow students, friends, and lodge members devastated, describing it as a heartbreaking loss of a young man who died in his prime.
