NLC Anambra Council Ends Year In Style, Fetes Select Stakeholders, Heads of Affiliate Unions, Past Leaders of Council ….Recognizes Deserving Individuals, Head of Service, Ononiba Honoured

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Anambra Council led by Comrade (Sir) Humphery Emeka Nwafor on Friday, 14th December 2025 in Awka ended the year 2025 on a high and memorable note. The group used the occasion to give a treat to a select stakeholders, heads of affiliate unions, as well as the past leaders of the Council.
The sumptuous event preceded by the meeting of State Administrative Council (SAC) and stock taking had notable invited guests in attendance, especially the Head of Service Anambra State, Dame Okwy Igwegbe, mni and the Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Chinedu Ononiba.
Addressing the gathering, the NLC Anambra Council Boss, Comrade (Sir) Humphery Emeka Nwafor expressed gratitude to God for what He had done for the Council during the under review, stating that he can not thank the Almighty enough for His grace and mercies, even as he commended the stakeholders, past leaders of the Council and all the heads of affiliate unions for their unwavering commitment and unflinching loyalty and support.
The organized Labour Leader who took his to appreciate all for honouring their invitation lauded the Head of Service for her motherly role, dedication, resilience and proactive way of handling the workers’ matters, noting that the NLC would not be having face offs with the government if talented persons such as Dame Igwegbe, were to be placed in positions for the advancement of the nation’s workforce.
Sir Nwafor, while eulogizing the HoS, pledged more support to the government of the State, announcing that there would be collaboration and partnership in the upcoming year.
An award of appreciation for exceptional dedication, empathy, excellent service, and good courtesy was presented to the Head of Service, Dame Okwy Igwegbe, mni while the Mayor of Njikoka, Hon. Barr. Chinedu Ononiba honoured with the Outstanding Mayor of the Year 2025 award
Receiving the award, Barr. Igwegbe thanked the leaders of the NLC for remaining cordial, peaceful, and aligning its operations with the agenda of the Anambra state government.
She assured the NLC of her continued support to them while reiterating that as the foremost worker in Anambra state, it behoves her to continue to ensure that the Anambra Civil Service remained healthy and workers fully renumerated.
The HoS thanked the organisers for counting her worthy for such recognition while promising to continue to work until the Anambra Service reaches her true potential.
Igwegbe recounted that the success achieved has been courtesy of the true partnership existing between the state government and the labour union.
She then highlighted the approval of a parcel of land for the construction of a Labour house in Anambra state, the implementation of the new minimum wage, the regular and timely promotion of workers in the state and the reabsorption of the defunct National Light workers back into the service as some of her achievements, among others .
These achievements she ascribed to the smooth partnership between the Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s led administration and the state’s labour union because the NLC Anambra chapter has upheld constructive dialogue over conflict.
Dame Igwegbe then thanked the leaders of the congress for their forthrightness and positive mindset towards building a strong workforce in Anambra state.
The Anambra Labour Union veterans thanked the HoS for being such an enigma and carrying on her duties in such a way that her footprints remained indelible in the sands of time.
Presentation of awards, speeches, and elaborate refreshments formed the high points of the end of the year party.
