Sokoto Approves 2025 Draft Budget, Awards Major Road Contracts

The Sokoto State Executive Council approved the proposed 2025 draft budget during its 10th sitting on Wednesday, set to be presented to the State Assembly by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto. Hon. Balarabe Kadadi, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, briefed the media, highlighting that the draft budget reflects Governor Aliyu’s commitment to transparency and accountability. The budget proposal focuses on key sectors including health, education, skills development, religious affairs, and addressing security challenges like banditry and kidnapping. “We are dedicated to advancing the state’s economic growth and ensuring peaceful coexistence among its citizens,” Kadadi stated. In addition, the council approved several contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of roads in Sokoto metropolis, especially in the Mabera area. These projects are part of the governor’s 9-point agenda to modernize Sokoto and transform it into a thriving urban hub. Barrister Nasiru Aliyu Dantsoho, Commissioner for Lands and Housing, outlined the awarded contracts: Mabera Axis Roads: Rehabilitation from U/Rogo to Kantin Sani at ₦729.8 million. Kantin Sani to Gidan Bulon Magaji: Construction at ₦841 million. Tafarki Road to Eastern Bypass: Development at ₦1.566 billion. Burtali Junction to Masallacin Lukuwa: Project cost of ₦756 million. Massallacin Adinere to General Murtala Hospital: Construction for ₦502 million. Buzaye Road: Rehabilitation at ₦674.9 million. Dantsoho assured that all road projects are expected to be completed within six months. He expressed confidence that by 2025, all township roadworks in the Sokoto metropolitan area will be finished and handed over to the government. These projects aim to improve transportation and connectivity, supporting the administration’s infrastructure development goals for the urban areas of Sokoto.
