SICKLE CELL ASSOCIATION RECEIVES MORALE BOOST FROM ANAMBRA COMMISSIONER
The Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, has pledged to assist vulnerable children living with sickle cell disorder with every necessary supports needed for their continued survival.
Mr Commissioner stated this in his office at Awka, when some vulnerable children from the sickle cell orphanage and underprivileged home, led by its director, Mrs Aisha Edward Maduagwu, paid him a courtesy visit to acquaint the organization with the Hon Commissioner.
Touched by the burdensome responsibilities of managing such a large number of vulnerable sickle cell children, Hon Nwabunwanne commended the Association for keeping faith with the Soludo administration, while promising government sustainable intervention to ameliorate their sad plights.
Mrs Aisha Edward Maduagwu, spoke intensely about receiving government directive and support on the area of sickle cell sensitization and genotype education across all communities in the State.
She sighted the Anambra State Sickle Cell Law, which empowers president-generals of town unions to ensure strict compliance of genotype compatibility among intending marriage couples in their respective domains. She also pleaded with the Hon Commissioner to require full adherence from PGs of town unions and local government authorities in the State to help in mitigating the births of sickle cell children.
Mrs Aisha Edward Maduagwu, also lamented over the inability of the Association to get a permanent location, sighting some undesirable elements bent on frustrating every noble idea of the Association.
Mr Commissioner, on hearing about the numerous challenges encountered by the children in meeting up with their daily needs, proudly told them to wipe their tears because he will ensure adequate provisions for their betterment and exploit every channel to address their grievances.
In appreciation for the warm reception and listening ear accorded the association by the Hon Commissioner, Mrs Aisha Edward Maduagwu, expressed her elation and described Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne as among the best brains in the administration. She thanked Mr Commissioner for his prowess in maintaining peaceful coexistence in communities across Anambra State, as no community is currently embroiled in leadership tussle or crisis.
A token of financial assistance was given to the children to celebrate the Valentine’s day which coincided with the visit.
