Anambra Police Intensifies Security Assessment Ahead of Visit by High-Profile Dignitaries

The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with sister security and safety agencies, has commenced a comprehensive security and safety assessment of strategic locations across the state ahead of the planned visit of high-profile dignitaries. The exercise, which began on Sept. 7, forms part of the command’s proactive and intelligence-led strategy to strengthen security arrangements and ensure effective operational readiness before, during and after the visit.
In a statement issued to journalists in Awka on Sept. 7, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the assessment was designed to identify potential security vulnerabilities, evaluate existing arrangements and reinforce security measures around designated venues, major access routes, critical infrastructure and other sensitive locations. According to the command, the exercise covers key areas such as threat assessment, intelligence gathering and sharing, access and movement control, strategic deployment of personnel, traffic management, emergency response preparedness and protection of lives and property.
The police command said the exercise was being conducted in partnership with relevant security and safety agencies to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive security framework throughout the period of the dignitaries’ visit. The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed all Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to carry out detailed security assessments within their respective Areas of Responsibility.
He further ordered the immediate identification and closure of any security gaps discovered during the exercise to guarantee adequate preparedness across the state. CP Oji Ama charged personnel involved in the operation to remain vigilant and uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and efficiency in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He also directed officers to remain courteous and responsive in their interactions with members of the public, stressing that all security operations must be conducted within the confines of the law and with full respect for fundamental human rights. The commissioner assured residents and visitors that the Police command, working alongside other security and safety agencies, had put necessary measures in place to maintain a peaceful, secure and orderly environment throughout the visit.
He appealed to residents, motorists, business owners, community leaders and other stakeholders to cooperate with security personnel and comply with all lawful directives that may be issued during the exercise. The CP further urged members of the public to promptly provide credible information on suspicious persons, movements or activities that could pose a threat to public safety.
He said the command would sustain a heightened security posture and maintain operational readiness before, during and after the visit to safeguard lives and property and ensure a peaceful and incident-free engagement.
