Seven girls die as canoe capsizes in Jigawa

No fewer than seven girls have died after their canoe capsized at Gasanya village in Kafin Kausa local Government Area of Jigawa State.

According to DAILY POST the incident happened on Friday when some girls numbering about ten boarded a boat to an unknown destination.

He said in the process, the boat capsized and all of the occupants died and were evacuated.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen.

He said the incident occurred On 19/11/21 at about 0015hrs when the victims were said to be in a haste and anxiety to reach home, they, therefore, decided to paddle a canoe parked at River at Gasanya village by themselves in the absence of a craftsman.

Shiisu said in the process the canoe capsized with girls numbering about ten, three were rescued while seven others died.

He explained that all the girls, aged from 10, 11, and 12 years old respectively, came from Gafasa village through K/Hausa LGA to Gasanya village in Auyo LGA for Maulud Celebration.

Shiisu said the victims were evacuated and referred to General Hospital Kafin Hausa F.N.A where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
