Sen. Nicholas Tofowomo, representing Ondo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has urged Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to repair bad portions of the roads in Ondo state to reduce accidents.

Tofowomo stated this in a statement issued by his Media Aide, Mr Olumide Akinrinlola on Tuesday in Okitipupa, while reacting to a ghastly motor accident which occurred on Friday at Oke Ola axis of Ore-Okitipupa expressway.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a head-on collision between a Toyota Coaster bus and an ethanol-laden Ford J5 bus had led to six people being burnt to death, while five others sustained severe injuries.

Tofowomo expressed sadness and grief over the loss of lives which he attributed to bad roads, saying that the same portion had, in the past, claimed several lives.

He condoled with families of those who died in the accident and prayed for quick recovery for those still receiving treatment at the hospital.

The senator, who is the Vice-Chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transportation, urged FERMA to, as a matter of urgency, repair the bad portion of Okitipupa-Ore road in order to save more lives, particularly with the approach of the yuletide.

“This is the second time that an accident would happen on the same spot because of the bad road. This is no longer acceptable.

“I was reliably informed that the two buses were trying to maneuver their ways out of the bad portion of the road when they collided. The accident could have been avoided if the road was not bad.

“FERMA in Ondo State should act fast and save lives, especially now that we are approach the festive period. The bad portion of Okitipupa-Ore road must be fixed within a short period.

“I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I also sympathise with the victims who are currently in the hospital and the state government on the unfortunate incident,” Tofowomo said. (NAN)
