Promise Of Shattered Hope, Poor Services Rendered On The Streets of Yahoo Junction

‘Sorry fine girl’, ‘oga calm down small small’, ‘no go fall me inside this mud oo’, ‘Na 700 naira the road don dey bad’ Phrases used on a daily basis by residents, marketers, visitors at yahoo junction. A popular student area in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Yahoo junction which has suffered land pollution and poor environmentalism over the years had been recently addressed by the politican of a leading political party in Anambra state in the first two weeks of May. This issue that was looked into was part of a campaign strategy adopted by his campaign team in collaboration with the Student Union Government (SUG), though a service was rendered to the residents, it shattered the hope of residents as poor services were rendered.
In a memo released by the campaign team, they commended the remarkable efforts and dedication of Engr Obiora Stephen towards the welfare of Unizik Student and resident of yahoo junction, in which the dump yard has been a major environmental and health concern causing discomfort and creating an unpleasant atmosphere within the Unizik student community.
It Further described Engr. Obiora to be a man of the people as “true leadership is not just about making promises but fulfilling them, he listened to the complaints of the students and residents and answered by clearing of the dumpsite which has reflected his genuine passion for community development, environmental sanitation and well being of the Unizik Student community at large
Moreso to achieve such an action requires collaboration from students body so a to promote good leadership which has led him to have continuous collaboration with the SUG, this act clearly shows a leader who is committed to service, progress and impactful representation as he continued his journey towards representing the people in Awka South house of Assembly petitions .
The campaign team acknowledged his dedication, accessibility and readiness to work for the interest of the people as they deeply appreciated his support for students and practical approach to leadership as his intervention at miracle junction will not be forgotten by the Unizik Student community.
Ndidi Juliet another resident who is also a Unizik student in an interview disagreed with the memo that circulated platforms because the place is still almost the same as before. They pack and also shifted the dustbin, and before the end of this year if care is not taking,it will probably go back to the way it used to be”.
“As a law student who wears white to school, I and other students going for morning lectures often had to take a bike just to avoid getting stained by the dirty road. Even when there was no money, we still had to find transport fare because trekking was difficult. From inside Yahoo Junction to the junction costs about 500 naira per person, and the price usually increases whenever there is heavy rainfall”
Stella Anaekwe a Unizik Student and a resident at Yahoo junction in an interview stated ‘the action towards environmental sanitation has only worsened the accessibility of residents to the road and doubled accidents that happens on a daily basis” she further emphasized on the movement of mechanized vehicles worsened the bad roads ‘the trucks that were used to move the dump yard inside left deep tracks that contributed to the deepening the large pot hole at the centre of the road’
Confidence Chinemelum a sales girl/marketer inside yahoo junction stated “the environmentalism has contributed immensely to land pollution and poor environmentalism as the road leading inside Yahoo junction is not motorable, because many a times her goods has been lost to the bad roads but she still just has to sell at an affordable price to student “. She further stated according to rumours ‘the campaign team was given money to do a good job but the team Squandered the money and implemented a half baked service’, ‘if the campaign team in collaboration with the SUG wanted to really perform a service to the student they should not just focus on environmentalism but also look into working on the road for better accessibility of all residents’.

Blessing Another sales Girl/Marketer inside yahoo junction stated “the problem of yahoo junction cannot just be solved by half baked environmentalism, because the viral video that prompted misinformation is not the first to go viral as most bodies, political or not, has also made an attempt to work on the pollution but they will abandon the service on the long run”. She further stated ‘the surrounding buildings has in one way or the other contributed to the land pollution and poor environmentalism as they lack proper drainage system’.
A Campus Journalist of Unizik who went for an online inspection in an experience observed most students rarely frequent the road leading to the junction of yahoo because of the dump site as they take a shorter route that is leading to the junction of destiny pot which is also water logged during the raining season. Moreso an adequate number of cyclists and motorists she saw were having difficulty passing the road as a bike man, as fondly called by student tumbled into the pot hole together with his passenger.
Plea had been carried out on social media platforms and complaints had been made to various students Govermental Platforms, discussions and gossips had been made pertaining this junction, but will a service worth remembering ever be rendered in yahoo junction?, will more team come in the nearest future to make yahoo junction a joyful and motorable place for resident?, a promise of shattered hope.
