Healthcare: NNPC donates state of art equipment, as CMD NAUTH Nnewi commends FG

The Chief Medical Director ,CMD, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching hospital, Nnewi, Anambra state, Prof Joseph Ugboaja, has commended
the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Foundation for
the installation of the 1.5
Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), saying the
equipment will go a long
way  to save lives and advance medical science in Anambra and the Southeast states.

Speaking during the commissioning/ hand over of the 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System, yesterday at the university complex, Nnewi, Ugboaja explained further that it
represents the installation of hope, precision, and excellence in healthcare delivery system for people in Nigeria.

The CMD who described the NNPC Foundation gesture as
a transformative gift to the hospital, said, “Today, the NNPC Foundation has demonstrated that corporate social responsibility is not just a policy statement-it is a lifeline for institutions like ours.

“The 1.5 Tesla MRI represents a quantum leap in our diagnostic  capabilities, Magnetic Resonance Imaging remains the gold standard for systems, and oncological conditions.

“We bring world-class diagnostics to the doorstep of our people…, This intervention aligns seamlessly with our 10-year strategic and development plan, particularly our pillar on acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and processes”.
 
“It also aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President and the four-point strategic pillars of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare: improving governance of the health sector, enhancing population health outcomes and unlocking the healthcare value chain etc .

He however pointed out that the NAUTH, Nnewi still has challenges,  including infrastructure gaps, power costs, and the need for additional specialist services, even as   he stressed that the journey towards making NAUTH a center of medical excellence is on-going.

He strongly cautioned the staff, consultants, residents, radiographers, nurses, and technicians who will operate this system to handle it with the professionalism and care it deserves, insisting
that every image produced here be a testament to excellence and every diagnosis be swift and accurate.

He revealed that much has been  invested in simultaneous
training and human resource development to  ensure that the team managing this MRI meets international standards of practice.

Speaking at the occasion, the Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd, Engr Bashir Bayo Ojulari, said that the company is committed to assisting in areas of social investment, adding that the intervention at NAUTH is timely.

Engr Ojulari said, “The installation of the MRI at NAUTH Nnewi examplifies our commitment to building institutions, sustainable systems and legacies, regretting that the nations health sector is facing challenges including infrastructure and equivalent deficit, technology, lack of funds, insufficient qualified personnel among others.

“This intervention aligns with our convictions that access to quality healthcare underpins human dignity, longevity and economic productivity,.. we ensure strict compliance with extant processes so that the social interventions implemented by NNPC Foundation are fact based and variable”.
