Politicians Are the Least Corrupt” — Educare CEO Alex Onyia Blasts Nigerian Civil Service

The CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia has shared strong views about corruption in Nigeria’s public service, saying that many top civil servants are more corrupt than politicians.

He said most people see politicians as the corrupt ones in government, but many senior officials in state and federal ministries are worse than politicians.

Alex Onyia said directors, managing directors, permanent secretaries, and other top government officials who have spent many years in public service understand the system very well and use that knowledge to help politicians steal money from the public.
According to him, many of these officials have remained in government institutions for more than 25 years and have built strong influence within the system. He said they operate like untouchable figures and are sometimes more powerful than elected politicians.

“The least corrupt people in public service are politicians. You see those directors, MD’s and secretaries of federal or state institutions, most of them are extremely corrupt and wicked. They are like deities. They have spent over 25 years there and understands the system so well. They teach corrupt politicians how to steal successfully.”
