Police Dismiss Claims of Enugu Government Account Hack
The Nigeria Police Force has refuted social media claims that the Enugu State Government’s account was hacked, resulting in the theft of ₦1.09 billion. Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified in a statement on Friday in Abuja that the incident was not a cyber breach but a case of procurement fraud, which had been thoroughly investigated by the NPF-National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC). “The allegations of a hack are completely false. The case was investigated, the suspect arrested, and the stolen funds recovered,” Adejobi stated. He further explained that the Enugu State Government, along with other ministries, departments, agencies, and corporate organizations, collaborated with the NPF-NCCC during the investigation. This partnership has led to the establishment of robust security measures to protect the state’s financial systems. Adejobi urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to verify the authenticity of information before sharing it.
