Pipeline Surveillance: HOSCON To Recruit 10,000 Anambra Youths

Host communities of Oil and Gas producing areas of Nigeria, HOSCON is to recruit ten thousand youths for pipeline surveillance.


The association made this known during the inauguration of Anambra state chapter of HOSCON in Awka.

The youths who will be recruited from the host Communities and from communities twenty-five kilometers away from major oil producing areas will also guard oil wells in their areas.

The Association is a community based pressure group, that promotes the protection of host communities of oil producing areas against negative policies and ensure that their rights and welfare are promoted.

Inaugurating the Local government and Community leaders of the Association, the National Chairman, HOSCON, Dr Mike Emo, said his mission was to join hands with the State Government to agitate and gain full recognition for Anambra State to begin to enjoy the dividends of the thirteen percent derivatives meant for oil producing states, gain from the benefits of Nigeria Local Content Act and also to benefit from clearing of gas flaring.

Dr Emo, urged the HOSCON Anambra State chapter, to work with one mind for the interests of their Communities.

While noting that the quantity of oil produced in the state does not matter, the Chairman of HOSCON Elders’ Advisory Council and traditional ruler of Ifitedunu, Igwe Emeka Ilouno, enumerated the benefits of the inauguration to include that, the state will now start benefiting from being HOSCON member and also experience influx of oil investors.

One of the newly inaugurated local government officials who spoke on behalf of others, Chief Vincent Obi, from Dunukofia Local Government Area pledged to ensure that his community members are taught on ways to guard over their gas and oil.

The inauguration witnessed the handover of membership cards, certificate of registration, and handover of staff of office by the National President of the Association, Dr Emo to the new leaders while Barrister Okeke Ugwonwa, the Anambra State chapter president administered oath of office on the new leaders.
There was strict observation of the COVID-19 protocols during the inauguration.
