PG Ahuwa Oboro, Uchegbuo on community policing

President General of Ahuwa Oboro autonomous community in Ikwuano L.G.A of Abia State, Engr. James Uchegbuo says that Community Policing could be more effective if Police officers with integrity are saddled with such responsibility.

Recall that in his maiden press briefing, the Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Chris Okey Ezike said promoting community policing and partnership through building positive bridges between the police, traditional rulers, local government administrators, student groups, professional bodies, traders and private sector organizations, NGOs and the media is one of the focus of the command.

Engr. Uchegbuo who spoke in Aba had pointed out that once its comes to community policing, the morality of the police officers managing the information gathered from informants effectively to achieve the desired result becomes an issue.

His words, “The integrity of the police officers in charge matters, when it comes to community policing and security information management. That is why in developed countries of the world, the government/top management of security agencies go through the genetic history of the officer’s family. Those who have inferior genetic chemistry are not allowed to head certain department, because a person that comes from a loquacious family cannot change overnight”

Accordingly  the President General  had posited that in developed country, those who handle sensitive positions in police, usually go for the officer’s data and not certificate qualification.

The PG had stated that before now, people had thought that it was only the young police officers that mismanage information given to them, because presently, even some senior police officers mismanage the information thereby frustrating the vital objectives expected from such information as one would have wished.

Uchegbuo had insisted that the issue of terrorism could be stopped and destroyed through community policing if the agencies involved can be upright in their dealings with the community members.

His further words, “if the people are allowed to do the needful and the police officers who receives the information can put it into proper use, no matter who is involved, then community policing will be a success”, just as he urged

Police officers to get themselves isolated from politics, to achieve community policing, because political affiliation and social class system are major clog in the wheel for community policing to thrive.

He insisted that the system in the country is completely destroyed by political plutocratism, arguing that information mismanagement is as a result of political plutocratism.

“By nature of law under the principle of impartiality, there is no provision of such class system, so the integrity of the police officers in charge matters when it comes to community policing and security information management”.
