Parents especially from Igboland have been encouraged not to discriminate but invest in the education of their female children irrespective of their eventual marriage outside their family.

The advice was given during the traditional marriage and wedding of Dr Ifunanya Obasoanya Enyi from Oba, Idemili South, Anambra State and Dr. Ifeanyi Nwaeju from Otulu, Oru West, Imo State which held both at Oba and Awka respectively.

Both couples who are trained medical doctors attracted the lacreme of medical professionals both within and outside the state. The bridegroom, Ifeanyi Nwaeju is the President, Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi Chapter.

The parents of the bride, Prof. Patrick Enyi and Dr. (Mrs)Chocolate Obasoanya Enyi also gifted a SUV car RAV-4 2016 special model among other collections as a parting wedding gift for the couple.

According to Prof. Enyi, ‘Our daughter made us happy and deserves more support from us. She finished her medical training on time and was among the first 10 during her set’.

“It is an African misconception that training the girl child in school will be a loss. Sometimes it is even the girl child you trained very well in school who takes care of the parents more than the males even after marriage.

“Parents should support any child that shows dexterity to learn and be useful, when the child comes off age she will show appreciation wether male or female.

“Sometimes,Igbo society do not have much for the girl child because of the belief that she would be married off in the future but marriage is an extension of one family to another.

“You do not just abandon a child because she is married. That is why I like the Yoruba culture, they give inheritance to the girl child wether married or not,”said Prof Enyi.

Also, Dr Chocolate Obasoanya Enyi said that her daughter Dr. Ifunanya made them proud encouraging other girls who lack focus in life to emulate their counterparts who are serious minded in academics and worthwhile endeavors.

“She made me proud, so I have to make her proud with this car. She is a neurosurgeon and also an anaesthetic doctor. I advise parents to train their children to become responsible or their children will end up in irresponsible marriages,” said Mrs Obasoanya Enyi.

President General of Oba, Rev Chris Emelie advised the couples to make their marriage an everyday honeymoon wether things were rosy or not seeking understanding from Christ Jesus.

Breaking the kolanut, Chief Sir Felix Uzor (Ichie Enyi II of Oba) after praying for fruitfulness and peace advised the couples to put God first.”Ife di n’Oba. Ibia Oba Obalu gi – meaning that Oba community has good things people can benefit from”.
