The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has commended governors from Southern Nigeria for speaking with one voice during their recent meeting in Lagos State.

Vice president of the group, Chief Damian Ogene-Okeke, who hailed the call by the southern governors that the next president of Nigeria should come from the south, said the decision will promote unity and fairness.

Damian Ogene – Okeke, who told South East Trust that this is the first time that the south is speaking with one voice on national issues, said that it will be beneficial if the unity is sustained.

According to him, the South should produce the next president as a northerner has been leading the country since 2015. He said this will reduce the tension in the nation’s politics.

“If the south is serious, it is natural that we produce the next president of the country. It will also cement the newly found unity in the south.

“I will like our northern brothers to listen and let them allow the south to produce the next president of the country. Our southern brothers should also know that the South East is the only zone that has not produced president of the country, so it will be good to allow them to produce the next president,” he said.
