More than 2 thousands people have been in a period of one week, kill by the ‘ve just got off the phone (39 minutes) with my “family” in Obigbo and I must say that Obigbo is truly bleeding. According to my brother, I spoke with his mother in the morning, “Emeka” was an indigene of Ideato, he was heading to work when soldiers stopped the vehicle he was in, asked him his ethnicity and he said Igbo, he was immediately picked, put in the van and later shot dead.
So, there’s the systematic killing of anything Igbo within the Obigbo axis, and their bodies dumped into the Great Imo River for the fishes to feed on? My family in Obigbo has become IDPs within Rivers State, while our mother and one of my cousins successfully escaped from Obigbo to another part of Rivers State, I still have two of my cousin brothers (youths) trapped in Obigbo and their safety currently is in God’s hands.
I left my family to ask about the wellness of others from my Community plying their trades in the same Obigbo “Nik” and his family are right now in Aba while “Chibuike” and his entire family members are in the village for the last one week Yesterday, they said that two persons were shot dead and today has witnessed sporadic gunshots from the soldiers’ rifles with no one out to ascertain the number of deaths from the gunshots.
It has been like this since on Tuesday and Wednesday On Thursday, a young lady was killed together with other young men from ostensibly stray bullets fired by the soldiers
Obigbo is entirely Igbo Territory and LGC in Rivers State In fact, in 1990 and prior to the creation of Abia State, the Obigbo tribal chiefs made a concerted effort for the territory (Obigbo) to be lumped back to the newly proposed Abia State, Abia State was created out of Imo State Obigbo had in 1976 (if I’m not mistaken) been unjustly carved out of Imo State and added to Rivers State.
The governor, Nyeso Wike who for politicking erroneously and stupidly referred to even indigenous Igbo people in Rivers State as “foreigners” is culpable for this systematic cleansing of Igbo bearing residents of Obigbo Even the proscription of IPOB doesn’t confer on the security agencies the right to shoot-at-sight of suspected members without judicial processes. I don’t know the position of Ohanaeze on this matter because I’ve not read any Ohanaeze communique issued most especially by the Secretary-General;
Barrister Uche Okwukwu from Rivers State who incidentally shares the same Ikwerre tribe with governor Nyeso Wike.
The continuous killings in Obigbo are barbaric and are hereby absolutely condemned Governor Wike should be held responsible and judged accordingly particularly at the expiration of the unfortunate immunity
