Obi celebrates Prof. Nwabueze at 90
Immediatepast Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr.Peter Obi, has joined other Nigerians of goodwill in congratulating Prof. BenNwabueze, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
Ina message made available to the press by his Media Office signed by Mr.Valentine Obienyem, Obi said that people like Prof. Nwabueze deserved to becelebrated for their contributions to their communities, the country andhumanity at large. “He exemplifies the beauty of using one’s gift to servehumanity,” Obi said.
Obirecalled that Prof. Nwabueze has served the nation in various capacities,including being the Federal Minister of Education. He however said that whatstood him out of the pack was his contributions to scholarship as a lecturerand author of many books that have continued to address aspects ofconstitutionalism, politics, rule of law and jurisprudence.
Obi,however, noted that when “nonagenarians that were evidentlycommitted to better Nigeria as Nwabueze reflect on the Nigerian condition, thatthe feeling will certainly be that ofregret at what the country has turned into.”
“Beyondpanegyrics, the debt the younger generations owe the older ones is to becomethe instrument for the actualisation of the country they dreamt of during independence,”Obi said.
Hewished Prof. Nwabueze well, praying to God “to continue to guard and guide himso that he would continue to offer his usually priceless advice to the nationthat has been wounded by cumulative effect of bad governance.”
