Nonso Okafor declares for Anambra Guber, Vows to Challenge the Norms

Anambra Lawmaker, Nonso Okafor has on Saturday thrown his hat into the governorship battle in Anambra state on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), www.odogwublog.com reports.

Declaring his guber ambition in Nnewi, the lawmaker currently representing Nnewi North constituency at Anambra State House of Assembly said the time has come to take the state to the next level by fulfilling the visions he has for the growth of the state.

Hon Okafor who was cheered at the Anaedo town hall by thousands of his supporters vowed to turnaround the fortunes of the state by instituting human and development-friendly policies that will revive the critical sectors of the state economy.

Hon Okafor who declared to complement the efforts of the outgoing state governor, Willie Obiano stated that his ambition to contest was borne out of his desire to impact the life of the people of the state and as well bring the fresh idea of positive change and renaissance stressing that it has been of his commitment to contribute t nation building and service to mankind.

“I want to set the ball rolling to take over from where governor Obiano left off. By taking over, I mean to take the state to the next level because I’m prepared academically and intellectually.

Declaring his plans for the state, the guber aspirant said his government will stand on the four pillars of Viable, Independent, Secured, and Advanced Economy, VISA, which he said was anchored on the Sustainable Development Goals.

He stated that ” we want to build an Anambra that we all shall be proud of. Anambra has a very sound economy. One of the thrusts of my government shall be to explore the business ingenuity of Ndi Anambra by investing heavily in small and medium-sized businesses that form the backbone of strong economies.

He maintained that his young age is the best time to take leadership when the zeal and energy are required to tackle the challenges facing the state amidst the need to embrace the digital economy. According to him,” I am not contesting just because I’m young. I’m contesting because I’m prepared for the task having been tested all around in the positions we have occupied.

“Today, we are in a digital age and cannot afford to operate analogs in a digital age. In the digital age, young people and youths are more digital. If you check the ICT sector, the musical sector, and even the entertainment industry, you find out that the youths have taken over in Nigeria.

“I will make sure that the state builds more on the creative economy. It takes a young person to build any nation and when a young person is on the seat can easily detect the problem because we know where the shoe pinches us. I will build the state to accommodate not just the young but also the older generation.”

“My government will cash upon the human and material resources available in our state to create a globally competitive state through innovation solutions that will also enthrone an education of the future through Science and Technology by implementing Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

Hon Okafor declared that he has no godfather but the people noted that his ambition is to challenge the norms. He said things must be done differently to remove systems that do no guarantee welfare to the people. ” I am coming to challenge the norms; we must do things differently and faster too. The dysfunctional systems that do not guarantee good welfare and a strong economy dour our people must be disrupted and fixed to run on a high pedestal.

He assured that his government will provide a health insurance scheme where reforms and novelties will be inclusive to address the shortage of manpower and facilities in the health sector.

Hon Okafor also reiterated that his administration would deal decisively with the issue of insecurity in the state, reminding that no meaningful development comes to a state without stable security.

He reassures that the state under his administration will work to enhance Anambra state security intelligence corps made up of vibrant youths that will be trained in pure intelligence and whose duty will be to report back via online platform to quell the danger.

Speaking to newsmen shortly, Member representing Awka North constituency in Anambra Assembly, Hon John Nwokoye said the aspirant is the first person to pass a bill in the seventh Assembly as a legislator, adding that the said bill borders on youth development and empowerment in Anambra State. He reaffirmed his belief that the aspirant can deliver if voted in as governor.

Also, Hon Barr Uzoma Eli representing Onitsha South 1 constituency in his vote of thanks urged the people to support him saying that attaining a paradigm shift starts with zeal and actions to demand change.
