The Regent of Oba, Prince Noel Ezenwa (Ezeammaalu Oba) has advised communities to resort to Self-help in embarking on Infrastructural development and checkmating insecurity.

Ezenwa who insisted that Self-help remains the major solution for security and development gave the advice while celebrating the 2022 New Yam festival at his palace in Oba, Idemili South, Anambra State.

“For instance, we just resolved to fill up potholes which do slow down motorists thereby making it easier for hoodlums to attack unsuspecting victims. After costing it, we fix it ourselves. We are not waiting for the Commissioner for Works.

“Self-help is now the only solution to everything. People should secure themselves first before waiting for outside help from State or Federal Government. My objective is that it is going to cost anyone who comes to Oba to rob sooner or later.

“We cannot continue to attribute our problems to external factors. We must start within us, our Ichies & Chiefs, elders, kindreds, villages and community members in dealing with the issues, proffering solutions, investing in and implementing them,” said Ezenwa.

He further enjoined people to be thankful to God for bountiful agricultural harvests.”When you are blessed there must be reciprocity”, he said.

Moreover, President General Oba,Rev Chris Emelie who maintained that there was nothing fetish about celebration of New Yam said that it was the time to appreciate God for increasing the little crop people cultivated.

“It is also a period each of the nine villages, individuals, groups including Oba Patriotic Union are expected to pay homage to the regent. After today any individuals or family is free to celebrate New yam,” said Rev. Emelie.
