Nollywood Director crowned new traditional ruler of community

After over eight years of the demise of their traditional ruler,late Igwe Frank Nweke,who was the father of Nigeria\s minister foreign affairs, Mr Frank Nweke[Jnr], the people of Ishi Ozalla, a serene community in Nkanu West local government area of Enugu state, at the climax of last Christmas and New year festivities, crowned Mr Sylvester Chinedu Nweke, popularly known as ‘Don Syl’ in Nigeria’s Nollywood village as their new traditional ruler.

He was bestowed with the title of Ishi[the first] of Ishi Ozalla at a colourful ceremony held in his ancestral family compound at Edeani Agu community,Ishi Ozalla,by elders of the community, according to their customs and traditional rites on January 3rd,2021.

The President General of Ishi Ozalla,Hon Christian Uzochukwu said the community considered Mr Sylvester Chinedu Nweke[not related to Frank Nweke Jnr] for the title based on his popularity and philanthropy to the community. He disclosed that Igwe Sylvester Nweke more than any other illustrious son of Ishi Ozalla evenhandedly built a mini stadium for the community, provided a borehole which reticulated water to some parts of the community and also built public toilets for the sake of sanity

Another illustrious son of Ishi Ozalla,Chief Peter Shu corroborated the town’s President General statement,stating that his coronation is what most people in the community had been expecting. He disclosed that the minor opposition to the choice of Mr Sylvester Nweke as new traditional ruler of Ishi Ozalla was settled amicably

Addressing the villagers thereafter,who gathered in hundreds to witness his peaceful coronation,Igwe Sylvester Nweke disclosed that during his annual celebration of ‘Ofala festival’ which will commence on December 2021, he will honour deserving son and daughters of the community who have attained laudable heights in the society and rendering services of various forms to enhance socio economic growth of the community,Enugu state and the nation at large.

He vowed to promote peace and unity among his people while endearing more social amenities that will impact on the social and economic well being of their rural dwellers from his personal pocket. He said that his decision in accepting the kingship is born out of his passion to help his community and not to reap from them.

His words,”I am a successful business man.I am accepting to serve my people. I am not ascending the throne so as to start reaping from my people.Instead, I will continue to endear development in our community. Our community has been under deprivation due to lack of Igwe’.

‘The most important aspect of my coronation remains the fact that I am the choice of the masses,who beckoned on me to take up the responsibility. I accept to add to the welfare of my people in all ramifications more than I have already done and will work assiduously to bring the attention of the authorities to those amenities were not sited in our community in the past eight years because lacked leadership, since after the demise of Igwe Frank Nweke’.

Responding to the question that no official from the state Ministry of Chieftaincy matters was sent to observe his coronation, Igwe Sylvester Nweke said he will reach out to the authorities of the Enugu state government so as to be accorded the honour and recognition as the new traditional ruler of Ozalla and consequently be issued with certificate of recognition. But to him, the most important aspect of his coronation remains the fact that the people of his community has made their choice and the voice will stand.
