Dauda Kahutu, widely known as Rarara, a notable praise singer for Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a scathing critique of General Abdourahamane Tchiani, leader of Niger Republic’s military junta. In a video circulating online, Rarara labeled Tchiani a “kidnapper” and demanded the immediate release of ousted President Mohamed Bazoum, calling for a swift return to civilian governance. Addressing a crowd of supporters in Hausa, Rarara described Tchiani as a disgrace to the military, accusing him of undermining the credibility of soldiers by avoiding decisive action to resolve Niger’s ongoing political crisis. “By God’s grace, Bazoum will be freed from the grip of this kidnapper. The people of Niger now recognize that Tchiani is nothing more than a kidnapper,” Rarara declared. The singer also revealed he had issued a 20-day ultimatum to Tchiani, urging him to release Bazoum and hand over power to a civilian government. He claimed his ultimatum had already triggered a response from the junta leader, suggesting progress toward resolving the crisis. “When I began this campaign, some dismissed me as insignificant, but now they can see the impact,” Rarara stated. “I gave him 20 days, and he’s already taking steps to address the situation within just a few days.” Rarara went further, accusing Tchiani of cowardice and mocking his leadership. “A true soldier confronts challenges head-on, but Tchiani is a disgrace to his uniform. He hides in the bathroom—proof that our efforts are yielding results,” he said. The Kano-based artist reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for Bazoum’s release and the restoration of democratic rule in Niger. His remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some praising his bold stance, while others questioned his understanding of Niger’s political dynamics. Recalls that President Bazoum was ousted in a military coup in July 2023 and has since been held under house arrest. Regional and international actors, including the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), have intensified pressure on the junta to release Bazoum and restore constitutional order in Niger.
