group wants intensification of campaign for family planning

Members of Media Action for Family Planning Committee, Anambra State, rose from a  one-day review meeting, yesterday, in Anambra Broadcasting Service Complex, Awka, with a resolve to work with all levels of  governments, stakeholders and private individuals to  create awareness to ensure that all women of reproductive age have access to family planning .

  The review meeting was aimed at strengthening the already-built capacity of members on family planning and health related challenges.

Among members  of the committee are journalists from print and electronic media, information officers and social media influencers.

  The Challenge Initiative (TCI) representative, Mrs. Kachi Ewe, said that the participants were expected to discuss their observations and  challenges regarding family planning in some of the primary health centres (PHC) they visited in the state .

  According to her, the participants should develop work plans that will help to promote subsequent advocacy for family planning in the state.

  In her remarks, the coordinator of the committee, Mrs. Franca Madike, urged the participants to submit at the end of the review what are expected of the government and stakeholders to achieve sustenance of family planning campaign in all communities of the state.

  The meeting equally resolved that community leaders of all the towns must be involved in educating the masses and that government and private media houses must embark on producing jingles that will always keep the masses at alert to access family planning, while bill boards should be sponsored all over the towns to keep people abreast of the need for family planning.

  According to them, health workers should be trained properly on family planning and should be supervised closely to achieve efficiency.
