The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Enugu, has trained 30 youths on Environmental beautification.

The Enugu State Coordinator of the Agency, Mr Eugene Agu, said this at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Environmental Beautification Training Scheme (EBTS) on Friday in Enugu.

Agu said that NDE had four key programmes which include Vocational Skills Development (VSD) Programme.

“In this programme, unemployed Nigerians are trained on the skills of their choices, while the second programme is is a Small-Scale Enterprises (SSE) Programme, under which business training is given to the beneficiaries in order to prepare them to be able to manage their businesses successfully.

“The third programme is the Special Public Works Department (SPW) where transient jobs are given to the unemployed, while the fourth is the Rural Employment Promotion Programme Training which is given to people who are interested in acquiring agricultural skills,’’ he said.

He, however, said NDE, in pursuit of its mandate of combating unemployment, encouraging wealth creation, and poverty reduction, had decided to organise this orientation for participants of the EBTS.

Agu said the training was divided into three categories which includes Flower Gardening, Landscaping, and making POP ceilings.

He urged the participants to take the training seriously, noting that many of their colleagues would want to be part of this training but only few of them were accommodated.

The state coordinator hinted that the Inspectorate Department of the NDE would be going to their workshop from time to time to see what they are doing and urged them not to be absent from their places of work.

Agu expressed gratitude to the Enugu State Government for its wonderful cooperation and support.

The South East Zonal Director of the agency, Mrs Ifeoma Ezepue, advised the beneficiaries that it was a privilege to be among the selected ones, urging them to take their programme seriously as it could make them employers of labour.

Ezepue, represented by one of the staff of the agency, Mr Isaac Jideofor, encouraged them to put in their best, as this particular training will offer them jobs that are far better than white collar jobs.

The Head of Department, Special Public Works Department, Mrs Lucy Nna, advised the participants not to take the programme for granted, and said “as ambassadors of NDE, you should not steal or damage the trainers’ property so that the aim of the training would be achieved.”
