Nationwide Curfew: 65 Suspects Arrested In Anambra State

The Anambra state Police Command says it has arrested a total of sixty-five suspects between Friday 8th to Wednesday 13th May 2020 for violating the Curfew on COVID-19 pandemic in Anambra State.

A release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed said that out of the suspects, twenty-four were arrested at Umunze Orumba South Local Government Area, fifteen in Onitsha and twenty in Nnewi Area Command.

He said that fifteen vehicles were also impounded.

The release said that, a TOYOTA Hummer Bus with registration number JXL 76 YF conveying nineteen young men from the North and travelling to Asaba, Delta State were intercepted at Umuchu Aguata Local Government Area and turned back.

It said that, Six Suspects were also arrested on the 12th of May 2020 at Big Balers lounge Abakaliki Street Awka.

The release said all cases are under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.

The Command said it is determined to enforce the Curfew order to the letter and will therefore not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any individual or group of persons found violating the government order.

It added that the Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang, solicits the cooperation and understanding of the public by adhering strictly to this Government directive aimed at containing the spread of Corona virus which has become a global pandemic.
