The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the Niger State Government have signed a N5 billion co-financing agreement to boost large-scale rice and maize production. Under the deal, both parties will contribute N2.5 billion each to support the cultivation of 4,000 hectares, benefiting 4,000 smallholder farmers across three local government areas. The project, involving NADF, Niger State Foods Company, and other stakeholders, aims to produce over 20,000 tons of food, create jobs, and improve livelihoods in line with President Tinubu’s Food Security Initiative. Governor Umar Bago emphasized the need for self-reliance in food production, highlighting Niger State’s abundant resources and potential for food sovereignty.
