Troops Seize Arms Shipment from Niger Republic Bound for Zamfara

Terrorists Troops of the 1 Brigade, operating under Operation FANSAN YANMA and in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), have intercepted a weapons shipment allegedly intended for terrorist groups in Zamfara State. Acting on credible intelligence about arms dealers from Niger Republic, the operation was executed between January 26 and 27. The troops tracked the suspects and intercepted their vehicle along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road. The suspects attempted to evade capture by diverting into the bush but fled after a brief encounter with the troops, abandoning their vehicle. A search revealed a significant arms cache, including two PKT machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, 171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and nine rounds of PKT ammunition. Although the suspects remain at large, security forces are intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend them. Counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama also highlighted the operation on his verified X account, emphasizing ongoing efforts to curb arms trafficking in the region.
