Minister Commends FG for Reviving Abandoned Ikom-Etomi-Agbokim Road Project
Senator John Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, has praised the federal government for resuming work on the 23-kilometre Ikom-Etomi-Agbokim road project in Cross River State, abandoned since 2012. Speaking on Thursday, Enoh highlighted the road’s significance in enhancing tourism and agriculture, particularly by improving access to Agbokim Waterfalls, a key tourist attraction, and connecting government-owned cocoa estates established under Michael Okpara’s administration. The project, originally awarded through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), marks a pivotal moment for the region, Enoh said, adding, “This reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to promoting local economies and sustainable development in Cross River State.” NDDC State Director Dr. Ajuwa Daniel urged contractors Faith Plant Services and Rhema Vision to meet project specifications and called on communities to safeguard construction equipment. He warned that interference from local leaders or youth groups could lead to the project’s reassignment. The project is expected to be completed within a year, with assurances of prompt contractor payments upon meeting the deadline.
