Man pleads guilty to obtaining stolen tricycle in Ebonyi

A 22-year-old man, Ugochukwu Ogwale, on Friday in Ebonyi, pleaded guilty to receiving a stolen tricycle worth two million Naira.

Ogwale admitted guilt before a Magistrates’ Court in Abakaliki.

He was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen property.

The prosecutor, Insp Chinedu Mbam, had told the court that Ogwale committed the offences on March 25 at Man City Hotel, Kpirikpiri on Ogbaga Road, Abakaliki.

The prosecutor submitted that Ogwale received a stolen tricycle with registration number AKW 309 UW, worth two million Naira.

He said that Ogwale unlawfully obtained the tricycle from one Mr Nwode Emmanuel, knowing same to have been stolen.

He added that Ogwale unlawfully possessed an iPhone 7 Plus worth N160, 000.

Mbam said that the offences were punishable under Sections 516A (a), 427 and 430 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ebonyi, 2009.

Following Ogwale’s guilty plea, his counsel, Mr Ikenna Mgbafor, prayed the court for leniency, saying that he was a first-time offender.

The Magistrate, Mrs Nnenna Ukpabi, sentenced him to six months’ community service and imposed N100, 000 fine on him.

“Hopefully, within the six months, the investigating team of the police will be able to arrest the others at large.

“Ogwale should be coming to the court everyday to sign,”Ukpabi held.

She ordered that the tricycle should be released to the rightful owner. (NAN)
