Man commits suicide over apparent inability to settle his debt in Kwara

A 25-year-old man, identified as Olakunle Obaoye, has allegedly killed himself due to depression over his incapacity to settle his debts.

Odogwublog amassed that the man was found dead inside a bush at Erinmope village, near Ayedun town in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, Babawale Afolabi, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He said the matter has been handed over to the police for further investigations and necessary actions.

He said, “On Monday 17/01/2022, one Thomas Obaoye of Ayedun town, reported to our men on ground about the demise of his brother Olakunle Obaoye (25), whose lifeless body was found hanging on the tree in what looked like a suicide.”

Babawale disclosed that “operatives of the NSCDC from Ayedun Division, later went to the scene of the incident and worked together with the relatives of the deceased to bring down his corpse from the tree.”

The dead body was later handed over to the family for proper burial, he added.
