Man arrested for allegedly beating co-tenant’s daughter to death in Ebonyi

Police in Ebonyi State said it has arrested one Ogbonnaya Daniel, for allegedly beating to death 11-year-old daughter of his Co-tenant, Miss Ukamaka Nwuzor.

This was made known in a press release signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),DSP Loveth Odah.

Odah said the incident was reported to Command’s ‘B’ Division Kpirikpiri,Abakaliki by the deceased’s father, Peter Nwuzor.

According to her, the victim was rushed to Alex Ekweme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AE-FETHA) for medical treatment where she was confirmed dead.

Odah said the suspect had been arrested and investigation was still ongoing after which he would be charged to court.

She assured the Command’s readiness to protect lives and property of residents.

“On 02/05/2020 at 2:15pm One Peter Nwuzor ‘m’ of Omege Avenue Abakaliki reported at ‘B’ Division Kpirikpiri, that by 9am of the same date his co-tenant at the forementioned address One Ogbonna Daniel ‘m’ age 28yrs, a native of Asaga in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State beat up his daughter Ukamaka Nwuzor ‘f’ aged 11yrs to the point of coma.

“Following the report, the Police detectives immediately visited the scene of the incident, the victim was rushed to the A-E Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AE-FETHA I) for medical treatment but was later confirmed dead by the medical practitioner on duty. The corpse was deposited at the same hospital Mortuary for preservation and Autopsy.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a next door neighbour to the deceased family and there was an altercation that the deceased (little Ukamaka) poured unclean water near (Mr. Ogbonna Daniel) the suspect’s apartment as a result he descended on her, beat her up to the point of coma which led to her death.

“However the suspect has been arrested and investigation is ongoing after which the suspect will be charged to court.

“The Commissioner of Police Ebonyi State CP. Awosola Awotinde mourns and commiserates with the deceased family and the general public, he prays that the Lord Almighty will grant the little Ukamaka’s loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“He equally wish to use this medium to advise the general public to desist from unnecessary anger instead embrace peaceful resolution especially in this trying moment of COVID-19 pandemic.

“He reassured them of the command’s commitment to ensure the safety and security of the residents in the State”, the Statement read.
