Kano Assembly Advances Bills to Establish State Security Corps, Electricity Agency

The Kano State House of Assembly has approved the second reading of bills proposing the creation of a state-owned security corps and an electricity generation agency. Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini Dala emphasized that these initiatives aim to enhance the state’s economic development. He highlighted the need for Kano to establish its own security outfit, inspired by similar measures in southern states like Amotekun, to bolster internal security. Dala also noted that the electricity agency bill aligns with the federal government’s approval for states to generate their own power, which is expected to drive economic growth. The proposed security corps would be empowered to carry locally made firearms, apprehend offenders, and transfer them to the police for prosecution.
