Joy in Anambra Community as N20m Worth Project, Handed Over to School

It was all joy and excitement in Amanuke, a community in
Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra State as two classrooms block among other materials were formerly handed over to community central school in the area.

The construction of the classrooms block, it was learnt, was sequel to the yearnings of the people of the area who had expressed need for new structures to accommodate the increasing population of pupils in the community.

Their yearnings was met by Hon. Akon Eyakenyi, a Senator representing Eket Senatorial District of Akwaibom State in the Red Chambers, after appeals by close ally, Comrade Chidi Chidebe, an Abuja -based illustrious son of the community.

Handing over the structure and materials to the school management, Comrade Chidi Chidebe explained that need for quality education was the factor that encouraged him to take the initiative of erecting a structure for the school. He also said quality education remained the fundamental investment to every child and that society owes it as duty to provide educational need of the child to grow.

He said: ” Education is the foundation and the root for development of any society, community or nation. If you miss it at the tender level, you miss every other thing. I know we lack so many other things in the community but when a problem need to be solved, it is better it is solved from the root; the root in this case is education.

“First thing is to prepare the mind of the pupils as they grow so that they would have that desired mentality that would allow them to develop. It is only when you are able to train people with knowledge of good and bad that you can communicate to them on another way forward.

“This project is a priority for me and by the time we finish this stage and we found that the two primary schools we have in the community are well taken care of, we can move further to secondary schools and other areas of the community need.

Comrade Chideme who expressed joy at the completion of the project singled out Senator Eyakenyi for praise, noting that it was her intervention and care that saw to the erection of the project in the community.

He disclosed that the project, ” was a twenty million naira budget for the construction and furnishing of the classrooms block. According to him, the classrooms block were built and furnished with quality seats, tables, desks and white boards.” The school was supplied with 95 pieces of lockers and 95 pieces of chairs for the pupils. They printed about 200 pieces of tick cover notebooks and 20 and 60 leaves exercise books in that order.”

He however charged the school management and the community members to take charge of the materials and ensure it is put to good use.

Speaking at the event, the Education Secretary, Awka North Local Government Education Authority, Mrs Benedeth Anago, said the project was least expected in the community. ” we are short of words. Not only are the people given the project, it was well equipped with chairs and tables; even the teachers equally benefitted tables and seats.”

Also, the Vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Amanuke and the Manager of the benefitting School, Revd. Shadrach Obidajua commended Mr Chidebe for putting smiles in the face of the school. He reassured that the school management would manage the resources judiciously and effectively for the development of the pupils.

In the same vein, Chairman Parents Teachers Association, Mr Julius Obiefuna charged the benefactor to continue with the good work and prayed that God should lift him to do more for the community.

Meanwhile, the traditional ruler Igwe Alphonsus Ezebilo commended the senator for her magnanimity and noted that the gesture was a huge development in the community.

Igwe Ezebilo who was represented by the traditional Prime Minister, Chief Charles Obi urged other illustrious sons of the community to embrace the think home initiative exhibited by Comrade Chidebe towards development of the community.
