IMO COUNCIL BOSS FIGHTS COVID-19


Worried by the recent geometrical increase in cases of Corona Virus popularly known as Covid-19 in Imo State and it’s environ, Lady Nkechi Mbonu, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman of Okigwe Local Government Area have launched a 5 day sensitization campaign geared towards the protection of the council area from the pandemic.


Lady Mbonu who christened her phase 2 rural sensitization campaign as “An Operation Total Defeat of Covid-19 in Okigwe” within last week ear marked the 5 working days and moved in to all the books and crannies of the18 ancient autonomous communities that constituted the Council area with some senior staff of the council and her political aides educating the people on activities of the State Government as well as the dangers associated with the disease,its precautionary measures and personal distribution of face mask and hand sanitizers valued over 4 Million Naira.

Her precautionary messages which she delivered in a flawless language of the local tilts on the need not to shake hands, if you are greeting others, she rather advised on waving hands from a distance.


She canvassed for regular washing of hands with soap under clean running water and robbing of sanitizer immediately.


Lady Mbonu passionately appealed to the people on the need to maintain social distance by avoiding gatherings and physical contact with others.


The Chairperson also advised the populace on the necessity for regular health checks insisting that health is wealth.


Among the communities she visited with her team within the Council’s 11 INEC wards  are Ihube,Amuro, Ogii, Ezinachi, Umulolo, Umualuoke, Ugwuaku, Okigwe Town etc even as she equally took her team and their messages to Okigwe Correction Center, Motor Parks, Okada Riders and food vendors among other socio-economic groups.

In each of these communities the turn out was impressive as both the Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders, political parties chieftains, clergies, the youths, women and elderly were around to listen to her Covid-19 precautionary messages and other messages of hope from the State Government.


One outstanding thing is that she reached out to them in their rural markets, Health Centers, school fields, church premises and ensure that any one in attendance goes home with quality face mask and State Government costumized hand sanitizer.


Lady Mbonu who expressed satisfaction on the visionary leadership of Senator Hope Uzodimma enjoined the people for their support and cooperation while assuring them of greater democratic dividends ahead.

Ironically, in all the places the people commended the council Chairman for her commitment in the welfare of the people and assured her of their resolved to support the State Government based on the implementation of their Shared Prosperity mantra.
