I regretted endorsing Peter Obi — Col Obi

A one-time die-hard supporter of the Labour Party, Col Chinyere Obi (rtd), has announced that she regretted supporting the Party in the 2023 general elections.

Obi, at a press conference yesterday in Abuja, noted that in the course of the election, she was shot by some thugs in Ideato in Imo State while trying to prevail on some thugs who were beating up a voter, to stop.

She claimed to have called the Labour Party Chairman, Julius Abure and the Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi but they did not come to her aid.

In fact, she said she ran out of cash and even had to sell her car to offset her medical bills.

The retired military officer added that if she had known, she would have rooted for the then Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

She revealed that she spent over N5 million and distributed over 200 bags of rice to convince voters to elect candidates of the Party.

“I worked for Labour Party. When it was time for election, Julius Abure told us to return to our grassroots to vote.

“I left in November to my grassroot. I went from market to market and I spent about N5 million campaign for Peter Obi.

“If is a curse at 75 years, I am giving them that curse. If you can remember, last year I challenged Tinubu and Atiku for an 8 kilometre walk. I know how much I spent in the East.

“The most painful part of it is that I was shot on my leg and none of the party executives called me. I called even Peter Obi. I was in the hospital for three months.

“None of them sympathised with me. None of them called me at the FMC. Even at the hospital, I had to sell my Jeep for N1.5 million to offset my medical bills.

“I left Abuja November and I came back last month (June) because I had no money again.

“In my own village in Ideato South to vote and people were asking if I was the only Labour Party supporter because I was sharing food items in the markets. I went with 200 bags of rice.

“So, when I went to cast my vote, I saw some people beating one boy and I intervene not knowing that they were thugs. And one of them shot at me on the leg,” she said.
