I feel miserable watching Nigerians being kidnapped, killed daily: Anyaoku

Comprehending the continuous safety challenges befallen Nigeria, the past Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, on Thursday, called on the Government at all categories to deployed additional defence architecture to checkmate the persistent devastation, abduction and murder of innocent citizens on daily basis across the country.

Anyaoku expressed his feelings during the 10th edition of Chief Emeka Anyaoku Lecture Series on Good Governance with the theme “Leadership and Good Governance in Nigeria” – which took place at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, Anambra state capital.

According to the elder statesman, restructuring of the country remains the only solution to Nigeria peace and unity, subsequently, end to the Biafra and Ododuwa Nation agitations.

“Since I returned to Nigeria in 2002, I have been advocating for restructuring of the country, which I know, remains the only tool to control the multi-ethnic groups in the country.

“What I read on our national dailies every day about the present security situation in Nigeria makes me at my age of 88 years, feel depressed even at night. I no longer sleep with my two eyes closed”, Anyaoku said.

He urged other well-to-do individuals in the country to help establish cottage industries in rural areas to curb youth restiveness.

The event was chaired by the former Governor of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke. Others in attendance include the State Governor, Willie Obiano, Senator Ben Bruce; Prof. Kingsley Moghalu; Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe; Traditional rulers; Members of the State and National Assemblies; past and serving members of the State Executive Council; Ministers; Permanent Secretaries; Anambra Gubernatorial candidates of various political parties; party officials; Members of Civil Societies and other stakeholders.
