Human Rights Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE) has lamented deplorable state of roads in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The group said some of the roads have claimed no fewer than nine lives, including a pregnant woman and a 70-year old man when the tricycle carrying them was submerged by flood.

Speaking on Saturday when he led members of the group to perform a mock commissioning of Obodo-Ukwu and Ede roads in the area, the chairman, Dede Uzor Uzor regretted that one of the roads linking the biggest market in West Africa with the Western flamk was at the verge of being cut off.

He said the decision to organise a mock commissioning of the roads was informed by the governor’s negligence to the road, warning that the group would not hesitate to mobilise human right community and other progressive minds to occupy the road if nothing was done after 14 days.http://Human Rights Group Tells Anambra Governor They Would Do His Job For Him, Failure To Act In 14Days.

He said, “Obodo-Ukwu road is strategic to the economic prosperity of the state because it links Owerri Road with the entire Ogbaru Local Government Area including Harbour industrial estate.

We’re here to commission the road which has cut into two since Governor Obiano whose primary duty is to construct road has forgotten or is too busy to pay attention to the rehabilitation of the road and others in the state.

“That is to say that he is too busy to govern. So we are helping him to commission some of these bad roads, so that any time he wakes up from slumber, he can come and do the road.

“After 14 days and there is no action by the Governor, we would not hesitate to mobilise human right community and other Plrogressive minded people to occupy the road until something drastic is done.”

On his part, chairman, Campaign for Democracy (CD) in the State, Comrade Ekene Nnadi called on the House of Assembly to initiate impeachment process against the Governor for failing in his constitutional duties, lamenting however that the House was mere rubber stamp.
