FORMER ANAMBRA SSG EMPOWERS STUDENTS OF UNIZIK ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT

Former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, His Honour Oseloka Henry Obaze penultimate week empowered some students of Economics Department, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

Obaze (OHO) who was a Guest Lecturer during the occasion of the National Economics Students Association (NESA) day and maiden NESA Marathon held on Wednesday, 17th November 2021 charged the students on the need to develop entrepreneurial spirit early.

Delivering the lecture on the theme: “Empowering the Nigerian Youth through Sports and Entertainment: The role of good governance”, Obaze highlighted on the need for the government to empower the youths by ensuring that programmes and events that will aid in imbibing the right skills, adding that Entrepreneurial spirit by the youths should be encouraged and supported.

Obaze who was former candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Anambra state also admonished the youths as a matter of necessity to work on self development as the White Collar Jobs often times are not readily available after graduation and in some cases offered to relatives of those in corridors of power and often times goes to the highest bidder.
He commended the Head of the Department, Dr. Ebele Nwokoye for the innovation behind the programme.

As a way of empowering some students of the Department, the former Secretary to the State Government empowered four students with the sum of N200,000 at N50,000 each to set up a POS business as a way of empowering, assisting them and reducing over dependence and crime related matter among others.

In her response, the Head, Department of Economics, Dr. Ebele Nwokoye thanked Obaze for his philantropic gesture towards the students. She urged other well being individuals on the society to emulate his kind gesture. Dr. Nwokoye also urged the students to utilize the funds given to them for the purpose for which it is meant to serve.

Present at the event were Sir Kevin Chukwumobi, CEO Apams Ltd; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Uche Nwogwugwu, teaching and non-teaching staff and Students of the Department including one of the staff Advisers of the NESA, Unizik chapter Mrs Chika Imoagwu who in an interview with www.odogwublog.com described the event as a huge success. She thanked Chief Obaze for adding colour to the event, and everyone who participated in making the event one of the bests in the department.
