IGWE IGBAKWU CONFERS ON PROF. OKUNNA CHIEFTAINCY TITLE’
The First Female Professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna was on Saturday, 27th November 2021, conferred with Chieftaincy title of ‘Ugo-Mmuta’ by HRH Igwe Prof. Onuora Nwuneli, the traditional ruler of Igbakwu, Ayamelum local government area Anambra state.
The Chieftaincy title to the Former Commissioner of Information in the state was on the occasion of the Ovala Festival of the Traditional Ruler of Igbakwu Community, Igwe Prof. Onuora Nwuneli held at the Community Secondary School field, Igbakwu.
Igwe Prof Nwuneli described Prof Okunna as quintessential and a pillar for his Community’s progress and development sequel to her contributions.
The traditional title to the scholar is in recognition of her contributions to the academic world through teaching, research and community service as well mentoring and nurturing many accomplished scholars in the field of Mass Communication and Journalism.
In her reaction, Prof Okunna who was the immediate past Director of UNIZIK 94.1 FM, Prof. Okunna thanked Igwe Nwuneli, his cabinet and the good people of Igbakwu for the show of love and recognition of her contributions towards the Department of Mass Communication, the institution, Anambra State and the communication world.
Prof Okunna described Igwe Nwuneli as an amazon who is instrumental to what she has achieved today. She called on the people of Igbakwu to continue to give him the necessary support towards the continuous growth and development of the community while asking the creator to continue to imbue him with wisdom and good health.
Speaker Anambra state, Rt Hon Uche Okafor , Chairman Ayamelum local government area, Hon Benjamin Onyabo among others were in attendance.
