The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, says the planned visit of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to the state will bring significant benefits in technology, nutrition and poverty reduction.

Mefor stated this during an interview with journalists in his office in Awka on 8 September, ahead of the First Lady’s one-day working visit to Anambra on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

According to him, the First Lady will visit the state to commission two major projects, including a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

He explained that the ICT centre would provide students with opportunities to acquire modern technological skills, including coding, software development, innovation and other digital competencies needed to compete for global opportunities.

The Commissioner noted that traditional education alone was no longer sufficient in a rapidly changing world driven by technology and artificial intelligence, stressing the need to equip young people with relevant skills for the future.

Mefor also disclosed that the First Lady would commission the National Community Food Bank project for the Southeast at the Iteze Centre, Old Government House, Amawbia.

He also added that in the Flag-off of Mrs. Nonye Soludo’s Large-Scale Empowerment Programme,
5,000 beneficiaries across Anambra’s 21 LGAs will receive business support, vocational tools, agriculture and agro-processing, beauty care, and small-scale equipment. The programme, which is an initiative of Anambra’s First Lady Mrs. Nonye Soludo, will be flagged off by Nigeria’s First Lady at Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Dr. Mefor, said the initiative would focus particularly on nutrition and support for vulnerable groups, especially nursing mothers and children between six months and six years.

The Commissioner said the food bank would complement the efforts of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration in tackling poverty, creating employment and improving the welfare of vulnerable residents.

He cited the administration’s investments in health, education, youth skills development and innovation as some of the measures already being implemented to create opportunities and improve livelihoods in Anambra.

Mefor expressed optimism that the First Lady’s visit would strengthen collaboration between the Federal and Anambra State Governments while delivering tangible benefits to residents, particularly young people, women and children.
