Everyone is a stakeholder in the fight against HIV/AIDS says Executive Secretary ASPHCDA

The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Pharm Chisom Uchem has noted that caregivers, parents, guidance, and everyone else is a stakeholder and has a role to play in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the world over.

Pharm Uchem made this known during an advocacy visit of National Agency of Control of AIDS (NACA), National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), and State Agency of Control of AIDS (SACA) team at the ASPHCDA office complex, Awka.

The visit was an entry meeting on the evaluation of the end time project of the integration of NACA programmes in 10 facilities each of three Local Government Areas (LGAs); Ekwusigo, Ogbaru and Awka South respectively.

The Executive Secretary, during the visit, explained that it was of paramount importance to educate people on the basic component of HIV and AIDS prevention.

“This can be achieved with health education and awareness creation as everyone whether teen or adult should have the knowledge of HIV/AIDS.

“As parents/caregivers, we must have to do aggressive knowledge base awareness creation with no one left behind.

“This can be a crusade that should be taken to age grade meetings as the society is now more aware of the disease. It will enable our children to get the right information on issues as these,” Pharm Uchem emphasized.

She, then, thanked the team, expressing gratitude to them for their efforts in the prevention and control of HIV and AIDS in the society.

The Team Lead, NACA Consultant, Dr Nelson Igwe explained that their objective was to implement prevention of HIV among women of child bearing age, and among children.

“Also, to create awareness in the community which will aid us to achieve our essential goal of HIV/AIDS prevention and control among pregnant women and children.

“The essence of our visit to ASPHCDA, is to intimate Office of the Executive Secretary on the evaluation of our project which commenced in Anambra State in April 2022 and concluded in March 2023.

“We want to evaluate the project which comprised of both sensitization and treatment of HIV/AIDS to know of its performance and future escalation in the State,” the NACA Consultant noted. (Ministry of Information)
