The Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport (EAICA) in Ado-Ekiti has been granted approval by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to begin non-scheduled flight operations starting December 15, 2024. The approval, outlined in a letter dated December 11, 2024, permits operations under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) for six months, from December 15, 2024, to June 15, 2025. A statement from Yinka Oyebode, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, confirmed the approval, which follows the state government’s request for a flight operations permit. The six-month period will allow for the validation of inspection findings and the completion of necessary corrective actions. During this period, the airport will coordinate with relevant agencies to provide essential services, including air traffic, firefighting, aviation security, and meteorological services. The approval permits private jets and chartered flights to operate from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (sunrise to sunset), with preparations underway for final approval for commercial flight operations. Governor Biodun Oyebanji praised the NCAA’s approval, highlighting the airport’s potential as a catalyst for Ekiti’s economic growth and improved accessibility.
