EEDC management donates cash, off-sets medical billof injured staff

The management of EnuguElectricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has donated cash and off-set themedical bill of injured staff of the company, Mr Obiajulu Atta, anOperations Technician.

The Chairman of EEDC, Sir Emeka Offor, presented thecash donation when he paid a visit to Atta in his hospital bed at theUniversity of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla near Enugu onWednesday.

It would be recalled that atabout 2;30 p.m. on March 16, Atta, who is attached to Umudike Service Centerunder Umuahia District, Abia State, was attacked by a customer.

The customer, whose identity is not disclosed, wasto be disconnected for non-payment of electricity bill; but he got infuriated,went for a matchet to cut Atta’s head but ended up cutting one of his handsafter a struggle.

Offor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr ChrisEzike, said that the entire company, the board and management of EEDC, feelsthe pain Atta was going through after being inflicted with a high degree of injury.

The chairman said, “What happened to you happenedto all of us; as far as you are an employee of EEDC and carrying out yourlegitimate duty nobody has the right to molest or inflict a high degree of injuryon you.

“Sir Emeka Offor sent us to tell you that the boardand management of EEDC is with you. We wish you well and wish you steadyrecovery.

“We are also reassuring you that whoever thisculprit is and his cohorts will be brought to justice.

“Tomorrow, we will be heading to Umuahia tointerface with the police and other security agencies to facilitate and fast trackthe arrest of the culprit(s).

“What he did was callous, unacceptable to humanityand to the company as well.

“This he did without any provocation from you, you werenot armed but only trying to discharge your legitimate duty,’’ he said.

Offor, who did not disclose the amount of the cash,said that those that attack both EEDC staff and installation would be dealtwith and prosecuted.

“As a company, we are investing massively inelectricity supply to better the living condition of Nigerians in our franchisearea and expect them to reciprocate by paying their bills and protect ourinstallation,’’ he said.

Responding, Atta appreciated the board andmanagement of the company for the cash donation and taking care of his medicalexpenses.

“I am so delighted to see you people and that thecompany is standing by me at this critical time.

“I thank you all for all these things done for me andthe chairman taking personal commitment to see to my quick recovery,’’ he said.
