Ebonyi govt names major road after former Senate President

The Ebonyi Government has named the new centenary city ring road which links the state secretariat and the new Government House, Abakaliki, after former Senate President, Pius Anyim.

The road was inaugurated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, during his recent campaign in the state.

The government made this known in a statement signed by the Special Assistant to Gov. David Umahi on Media and Strategy, Mr Chooks Oko and made available to newsmen on Saturday.

Oko said that the state Executive Council resolved that the road be henceforth called ‘Anyim Pius Anyim centenary city ring road’.

“The Executive Council (EXCO) also approved the naming of the new Olympic Stadium Abakaliki, after late Military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha,” the statement read.

The governor’s aide expressed the government’s continued magnanimity to the people both at home and diaspora toward the 2022 Christmas celebration.

“The government has approved N111,250,000 which covers the transportation of Ebonyians living in Lagos and Abuja to the state for the Christmas celebration.

“This fund also covers cost of rice, Christmas gifts and largesse to the selected 1, 270 Ebonyi people living in Lagos and Abuja.

“The secretary to the state government, commissioners for trade and investment, human capital development and monitoring, health and special duties were charged to supervise the process,” the statement read.

Oko said that the executive council received a bill for a law to honour illustrious sons and daughters of the state who have served creditably with state honours award.

“EXCO deliberated on the draft state honours law and adopted the draft with some amendments.

“The EXCO directed that such amendment be forwarded to the House of Assembly for legislative processes after effecting the corrections,” he said.

He noted that the EXCO received a report from the chairman of the state civil service commission on the recruitment exercise to fill vacancies existing in the state ministry of justice.

“EXCO had approved the recruitment of 64 legal officers in the ministry on equality of local government areas and senatorial zones.

“EXCO thus directed the immediate employment of the successful applicants into the various positions in the ministry,” the statement read. (NAN)
