Rubio meets Pope Leo XIV as US–Vatican tensions simmer
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on Thursday in a bid to ease rising tensions between Washington and the Holy See over the pontiff’s criticism of US foreign policy.
The meeting comes after President Donald Trump’s recent criticism of the US-born pope over his anti-war comments, which has further strained relations between both sides.
