A Sunday service at St John's Catholic church took a dramatic turn when a teenage girl suddenly fainted during the sermon.

The incident took place on Sunday, the 18th of February 2024, when the priest was giving the sermon. The young girl identified as Martin Treasure, suddenly fainted as the priest asked the congregation to stand and pray. This caused a lot of commotion and tension amongst the members of the church as they all gathered to know what had happened.

The girl's mother who was standing beside her quickly rushed to her daughter and called on people for help. The priest, on seeing what was going on, rushed down from the altar to where the girl had fainted. He immediately called on the church's medical team to aid in reviving the girl. The medical team on the other hand, wasted no time in reaching out to the girl and within ten minutes some first aid treatments were administered on her. After the first aid treatment, she was carried to the nearest clinic.

Odogwublog in an interview with the girl's mother gathered that initially the girl had already been showing some malaria symptoms at home. The mother further explained how she tried to talk the girl out from going to church that morning but she refused saying she could not say alone. The mother also stated that at the time of the interview, the girl was already conscious but the doctor had complained that she has acute malaria whilst being glad that she brought in early enough.

The aftermath of the incident was much, both on the side of the girl's family and also the church. The church started a free medical checkup for all members twice in a month. The priest selected some individuals from the medical team who would be in charge of the project.

According to the priest, it was for the benefit of not only the members of the church but the community at large. He stated how tensed he was when he saw the girl on the floor. He further said that with the new activity, members would be able to detect any illness early and attend to it immediately.
