Butchers under the aegis of New Jerusalem abattoir Union Ogbunike has endorses Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State for a second term in office on account of his sterling developmental achievements in all the sectors of the state so far.
Making this known to journalists while embarking on the union weekly routine sanitation exercise held during the last state monthly sanitation exercise, Chief Emmanuel Nwife the chairman of the Union flanked by Hon. Ugo Ojekwe secretary, Hon. Sunday Okoro Financial Secretary, Chidibere Nweke-Treasurer noted that Gov. Soludo has been doing well in tackling the problem of the state in the areas of maintenance of good security, road constructions, creation of jobs, empowerment of youths through skill acquisitions, management of state lean resources, development of commerce etc and deserved to be asked to continue to further make the state the number one in developments in development index in Nigeria.
On the General Condition of their abattoir, he stated that they have been trying their best to ensure that standards laid for them by the state government are strictly maintained as they don’t slaughter sick, prohibited, unhygienic animals as well as don’t allow dead or decaying cow meats to be sold in the market adding that they have strict sanctions for members who violated it.
Commenting on high cost of cow meat these days, he blamed it on the increase of insecurity in the country and high cost of dollars over the Nigeria Currency, He explained that because of insecurity most genuine herders has lost their lives and their cattle to bandits thereby reducing the number of available cows.
Another factor he said that contributed to the high cost of cow meats is activities of cameronian cow traders who in the past used to buy cow in Nigeria to sell in their country but right now the Nigeria currency has been depreciated against their currency now used their indigenous currency to buy cows at a very high price here in Nigeria then go to their country and sell them out, then carry the money realized from the sales to change to naira giving them more gain than before.
speaking on challenges facing the union members, He noted that they are working round the clock to ameliorate some of them through collective efforts stressing that they have installed a clean borehole water which has been daily supplying clean water for washing of cows meat to make it neat for human consumption, build cages for protection of cows, and currently planning to build a decent union office.
While saying that the executives of the union is working round the clock to ensure that the abattoir emerges as one of the best in Anambra in terms of cleanliness, he appealed to the state government to come to their help and build a modern slabs for slaughtering of animals for the union to further enhance the abattoir to an International Standard.
