Cleaner docked for alleged theft of N1.9m bicycles

The police on Thursday arraigned a 20-year-old  cleaner,  Ali Hassan, in Abuja for allegedly  stealing bicycles worth N1.9 million.

The police charged Hassan, who has no fixed address, before a Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court.

The defendant,  however,  pleaded not guilty.

Earlier, the prosecutor,  Mr Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the complainant, Mr Mohammed Aliyu  of Durumi, Abuja, reported the case at the Durumi  Police Station on Dec. 23.

Nwaforaku said that,  on Dec. 17, about 6.00 a.m.,  the the defendant and another person made away with three bicycles worth N 1.9 million.

He said that the bicycles belonged to Mr Jonah Izuka  of Durumi, Abuja.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, one of the bicycles worth 400,000 was recovered from the defendant.

The Judge, Mr Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million Naira  with one surety in like sum.

Kagarko  ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until Feb. 16 for hearing.
