Breaking: Announcing VCO Mbem and Oja Voice Melody Contest

Last month, when I announced an Ogene message contest, my intention was to use a rich Igbo cultural expression to educate our people on staying safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I couldn’t have imagined the fire that that contest ignited in the Igbo community around the globe. The intense excitement and the engaging feedback on the contest has confirmed what I have always known about the power of culture and music to bring people together, tell our stories, and empower our youth.

So today, I announce the Mbem & Oja Voice Melody Contest in partnership with my foundation, @chinetoozigbofoundation.

I hope this contest will inspire the innate ingenuity of our Igbo cultural story tellers. To encourage female participation, there are prizes for female and male categories. Check the flier and video for information on how to enter the contest.

The contest ends on May 28, 2020. I encourage all our gifted traditional rappers and poets to enter this contest. Please share this information with your family and friends.
