The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) says the All Progressives Congress (APC) is raising the country`s standards of political mobilisation and winning members of opposition parties to its fold through negotiations.

Dr Salihu Bagudu, the Director-General of the forum, an umbrella body of governors elected on APC platform, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

He credited the feat to the Gov. Mai Mala Buni-led National Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the APC.

The PGF DG said that the committee had achieved the feat at a time when politics was almost equated to warfare in the country.

He said that the Buni-led CECPC had been able to skilfully demonstrate that winning the minds of citizens was all about negotiations and winning agreements.

“They have been able to win landmark agreements that brought accomplished political leaders into APC, based on which, the structures of our great party are being redefined.

“With these agreements, milestone achievements are being recorded almost on daily basis.

“And experienced leaders such as Dave Umahi, Prof. Ben Ayade, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Yakubu Dogara, Dimeji Bankole and now Alhaji Bello Matawalle, among many others have joined our great party,’’ he said.

Bagudu specially welcomed Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara and other leaders and members who recently joined the APC.

He said the decision of Matawalle to join the APC was yet an affirmation of APC`s capacity to mobilise all patriotic citizens to join its fold.

He said that this was consistent with the vision of the party`s founding fathers to ensure that it was a platform that unites all Nigerians.

“The coming of Matawalle to the APC strengthens the process of membership and leadership recruitment at all levels,’’ he said.

Bagudu applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his exceptional political virtues and fair dispositions which according to him, has made the APC attractive to all patriotic Nigerians.

He expressed optimism that the sterling attributes of the president would continue to promote the party to serve as the main source of electoral advantage.

“Progressive governors will continue to support the president to build our party as a strong and democratic political party in the country,’’ he said.

He commended Matawalle for taking the courageous decision of leaving the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC.

Bagudu said this demonstrated Matawalle`s principles, commitment and conviction to the development of the country, saying that he was only coming home where he belonged.

“APC is indeed the party that will provide him and his people and indeed all Nigerians the viable platform for political aspirations and negotiations.

“Together with Matawalle and all our leaders in the APC, our party’s capacity to serve the collective interests of all Nigerians through effective representation will be strengthened and reinforced.

“Our party is open to all Nigerians who are committed to the progress of our country,’’ Bugudu said.

He stressed that the forum would continue to mobilise and welcome all who had a shared vision of supporting Buhari and the party’s agenda to consolidate the progress made.

He added that the forum would also work to further unify fellow patriots across the country.

He advised all party leaders and members to continue mobilisation, saying that the APC was equitable and that its strength lied in the appreciation of all Nigerians.

According to him, the APC represents the future of Nigeria`s democracy which is all about negotiations, consultations and winning agreements.

“Processes of negotiations and consultations will continue to serve as the basis of engagement with all leaders, members and by extension all Nigerians.

“The guiding philosophy as enshrined in the provisions of our manifesto will produce landmark agreements that will facilitate economic, social and political development of Nigeria.

“The progressive reinforcement of our party continues, we look forward to receiving more patriots and progressive minded Nigerians into the APC,’’ the PGF DG said. (NAN)
