Anambra State Government assures safety of Vaccine as it gets set to flag off Measles and Rubella Vaccine On 4th February
Anambra State second stream, phase two of Measles and Rubella Vaccine, has been scheduled for official flag off across the three hundred and thirty health wards on 4th February.
The exercise, which will last for ten days for children, aged nine months to fourteen years, also has two days targeted mop-up bringing the entire to twelve days.
In her opening remarks, during stakeholders engagement meeting, organised by the state ministry of Health in collaboration with Anambra State Primary Health Care Departments Agency, ASPHCDA, and partners, in Awka, the state secretary of ASPHCDA, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem, assured that the vaccine is safe.
In his goodwill message, the UNICEF Social and Behaviour Change/Health Consultant for Anambra State, Mr. Victor James, who described Measles and Rubella as preventable diseases, promised their readiness to curb it.
Mr. James while appealing to ensure that no child is left behind in the campaign, emphasized that the health of every inhabitant of Anambra State is their top most priority.
Speaking, a Consultant Paediatrician, Dr. Chinenye Uju, who listed increased risk of disease outbreaks and it’s complications, higher mortality rates, long term disabilities among others, as dangers of lack of Immunisation, called for Community and government commitments towards ensuring that all eligible individuals are vaccinated.
Dr. Uju while emphasising on the numerous benefits of Immunization, which according to her, protects individuals and communities, prevents Epidemics and Pandemic, Saves millions of lives and always safe and effective among numerous others, opined that benefits outweigh the risks.
